Below is our listing of registered Lykos Wolfalike Dog Breeders in Australia.
These are the only breeders registered with the LWCA.
All dogs bred with in this program (from our list of registered breeders above who have signed our Code of Ethics) have been, at the very minimum:
Completely DNA cleared against Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)
Canine degenerative myelopathy, also known as chronic degenerative radiculomyelopathy, is an incurable, progressive disease of the canine spinal cord. Progressive weakness and incoordination of the rear limbs are often the first signs seen in affected dogs, with progression over time to complete paralysis.
Completely DNA cleared against Ivermectin Sensitivity (MDR1)
Ivermectin Sensitivity is a hypersensitivity to the drug Ivermectin. In affected dogs the drug and other toxins cannot be removed from the brain and surrounding tissue. This results in the accumulation of toxins and can lead to adverse neurological affects. Ivermectin is a commonly used heartworm prevention drug. A mutation in the multi-drug resistance gene (MDR1) in dogs prevents the production of a transport protein (P-Glycoprotein), which removes the drug and toxins from the brain and tissues. The resulting accumulation from this failure to detoxify the brain and tissues often results in severe neurological affects such as hyper-salivation, ataxia, blindness, coma, respiratory arrest and death. Unfortunately this sensitivity is not only restricted to Ivermectin, but many other preventative canine drugs. It is essential that owners be aware if their dog is Ivermectin sensitive as many affected dogs require as little as 1/200th of the dose required to cause toxicity in healthy dogs. Ivermectin sensitivity has an extreme degree of severity as it can cause immediate death.
Hip and elbow x-rayed (with excellent results - total hips <10 and elbows <1)
Hip and elbow dysplasia are abnormal formations of the socket and joints that, in its more severe form, can eventually cause crippling lameness and painful arthritis of the joints.
Pups from our breeders can only go to their new homes after they reach 8 weeks of age.
Puppies come microchipped, desexing agreement, their first vaccination and are regularly wormed by our breeders. Breeders register their pups with the ADLP and puppy owners will be provided with a Certificate of Registration & Pedigree with the Australian Lykos Development Project.
Puppies are guaranteed against any hereditary / genetic diseases for its entire lifetime, including hip and elbow dysplasia, with parents being clear for all inheritable diseases. Puppies are priced from $2500-3500.
Anyone enquiring should familiarise themselves with the traits and requirements of Alaskan Malamute, German Shepherd and Siberian Husky breeds.
